And when I upgraded to Windows 11 in early 2022 and installed the WhatsApp desktop on my Windows 11 pro, I got sound problems. After searching, I came up with the below solutions for the WhatsApp sound problems on Windows 11.

How to Let WhatsApp access your Microphone on Windows 11
Before anything else, check if WhatsApp can access your computer’s Microphone. If the app uses your Microphone, you will see a microphone icon on your windows taskbar. And if it did not show on the taskbar during the call, go to the following steps to see it and give permissions manually.
- Open the settings app by pressing Windows + I button.
- Click on the Privacy and Security.
- Scroll down, find the Microphone under the app permissions section, and open it.
- Make sure the toggle button next to the Microphone access is turned on. You can turn it on by switching it.
- Furthermore, let the app access your Microphone is also on and scroll down to find the WhatsApp app and see if it is on or off. Turn it on if it is off.
Close the Settings windows. Now you are sure that WhatsApp has permissions to your PC’s Microphone. Additionally, use a headphone /headset for the audio check. Your computer’s mic might not be working.
Finally, if you become sure that your Computer’s Microphone is working correctly, it is time to check your PC’s sound.

How to fix WhatsApp audio or video call sound problems on Windows
After I checked the Microphone on my computer, I came to know the problem was from the sound settings. To fix the sound problems on Windows 11, follow the steps below.
- Open the settings from the Start Menu or press the Windows + I button.
- Click on the sound option in the system.
- The Troubleshoot common sound problems option is an easy way to check and fix the sound problem. Scroll down and find the ‘Troubleshoot common sound problems’ option in the Advanced section.
- Now select the Output devices. (You can choose the input devices if you do not have the other side’s sound)
- Get help window asks for your consent to proceed with the diagnostic, click yes. Wait for a moment while it scans for your device.
- The Get help found the problem. It says, ‘the audio device is muted. Asking for my permission to unmute and fix the problem, I select the yes button. It takes seconds to unmute. When the sound problem is solved, you see the accomplishment message. (Better to follow the onscreen instruction).
- It is also possible to mute or unmute the sound manually. To unmute, select or click on the unmute speaker icon. If the sound is muted, you see an ‘x’ next to the volume control.
